Back-to-School Night took place on the beautiful campus of Crystal Springs Uplands School in Hillsborough. Parents, teachers, and administrators came together to celebrate the beginning of the 2024-25 school year.

The night kicked off with casual mingling over drinks and dinner. The attendees had the opportunity to connect with others in the school community and build relationships that will help all of the students thrive in the coming year.

School spirit was brought to life by an entertaining appearance of the Gryphon mascots. Sports jerseys were on display, and the decorations with school colors added a strong sense of unity and pride. This Back-to-School Night gives you a glimpse of the school year ahead - a journey filled with learning, growth, and fun.

Back-to-School Night at Crystal Springs Uplands School

SF Parks and Recreation hosted a community barbecue at Jack Rabbit Beach as a part of the Candlestick Point Tell Your Story initiative - a celebration of collective voices from every corner of the community. Community members, young and old of different walks of life, attended, and among them were the dedicated volunteers from Saved By Nature's Dock of the Bay project.
 The air was filled with laughter and friendly competition as people engaged in a myriad of fun activities. Jumbo Connect 4 and Jenga towers teetered and tumbled amidst cheers and groans. Learning was made fun with science and nature exploration activities that sparked curiosity in young minds. The bean bag toss game saw many a friendly duel, while the bicycle blender added a unique twist to the event, churning out refreshing drinks powered by pedal-pushing enthusiasts.

The Family Resource Navigators Early Start Program Play Group gathered at the San Leandro Public Library, providing a safe, inclusive space for young children and their caregivers. They came together to build and enjoy a nurturing learning environment for children aged zero to five.

A multitude of hands-on and tactile stations dotted the room. Sensory bins were filled with an array of textures and materials designed to stimulate a child's curiosity. Puzzles, perfect for developing problem-solving skills and hand-eye coordination, were scattered throughout the area. Animals, gears, and other educational toys were within arm's reach, providing endless opportunities for interactive play. Stacking toys and jumbo soft blocks could be found child-sized tables, ready for little hands to construct and deconstruct to their heart's content. Art stations were also aplenty, with crafts, coloring, and even child-friendly sewing activities. And of course, nestled in cozy corners were a plethora of books, encouraging a love for reading from an early age. Delicious and healthy treats were provided to keep energy levels up and tummies satisfied. All around, children had the opportunity to learn through play, make new friends, and develop essential skills, all under the nurturing care of our dedicated team of staff and caregivers.

The Alameda County First 5 Barbecue for agency staff and their families took place on a typical August Alameda day with cool weather and cloudy skies. An endless supply of tacos and a snow cone station accompanied a variety of activities for all ages There was face and body painting, a bean bag toss, hula hoops, bubbles, and jump ropes. Adults connected through a game of people&rsquo;s bingo, and young and old joined in on the relay races. The barbecue created a day of joy, camaraderie, and shared experiences.

The East Bay Asian Local Development Corporation (EBALDC) celebrated its 48th year of service to the community. The anniversary was commemorated with a grand gala held at Preservation Park in Oakland, CA. The event was a testament to the unity and diversity of the community, with individuals, businesses, and organizations from all walks of life gathering in support of EBALDC's enduring mission to build neighborhoods that are healthy, vibrant, and safe. The venue was adorned with large, vibrant posters showcasing the many initiatives that EBALDC spearheads. Among these were Teen Art Workshops, enabling the youth to express their creativity and ideas; Resident Leadership Cohorts, instilling leadership skills in community members; and Community News Reporters and Journalism, a program that gives voice to the stories of the community. Live art unfolded before the guests' eyes, as an artist created a stunning painting of a phoenix - a symbol of rebirth and resilience. The soft, soothing melodies by a live harpist filled the air. The night continued with a lively auction with all proceeds going back to support EBALDC&rsquo;s work. Speakers took to the stage, sharing their experiences and reinforcing the importance of community solidarity. The event concluded on a high note with a sundae bar, offering the perfect sweet ending to the celebration. The 48th Anniversary gala was a heartfelt celebration of EBALDC's ongoing commitment to the development and betterment of the community. A unique blend of culture, arts, and entertainment, the event served as a reflection of the diverse and vibrant community that EBALDC serves.

The East Bay Now event, organized by the East Bay Economic Development Agency (EDA), took place in the heart of downtown Oakland, CA. Taking place in a spacious event space within the Square Building, attendees were treated to the building's crowning glory - a rooftop garden that provided panoramic views of the city skyline. A diverse group from all walks of life attended this event. It was a sampling of a who's who of the East Bay area, and included business leaders, economic influences, local media powerhouses, politicians, and representatives from city and county agencies. The main event of the evening was a series of speeches that underscored the need for accelerated economic development in the East Bay area, with a specific emphasis on Oakland. This wasn't just talk - this was a call to action, an immediate need for support and investment in the local economy. And it wasn't all business. Attendees were treated to a variety of amenities to help them relax and enjoy the evening. There were oxygen stations, massage therapists on standby to help uncoil those tight shoulders, and a selection of drinks and hors d'oeuvres. As the sun set over the city, a different kind of star took center stage. Kev Choice, Oakland's own, filled the evening air with music that was as diverse and vibrant as the crowd itself. Remember, this isn't just about an event. This is about you being part of a broader community, an active participant in the ongoing narrative of the East Bay area. Because, at the end of the day, this isn't just about economic development - it's about developing a community that supports, uplifts, and champions each other.

In the spirit of giving, a donation station was set up, encouraging contributions towards the agency's noble cause of fostering fairness and opportunity in the district. The auction items were not just beautiful and desirable, but each piece also epitomized the local spirit and community camaraderie. A lively mariachi band opened the event. The evening's main events were the awards ceremony and keynote speech. These moments celebrated achievements in equity advocacy and inspired everyone present to continue their support and involvement in the agency's mission. The event drew a diverse group of attendees, with representatives from various sectors and communities across San Francisco. The attendees, each dressed to impress, showcased the vibrant tapestry of cultures, professions, and experiences that make up this incredible city. As the formal proceedings concluded, the night was far from over. A DJ took over, spinning tracks that had everyone on their feet, dancing and enjoying the celebratory spirit. The music, the laughter, and the shared joy of the night created a powerful sense of community, a testament to the impact MEDA has made over its 50-year journey. In short, it was an evening of celebration, reflection, and commitment to continued advocacy for equity in the Mission district.
